Professional air duct cleaning is the surest way to ensure that the HVAC system in your home or office is clean and operating efficiently. Despite the widespread problem of indoor air pollution, there are things that you can due to reduce your need for air duct cleaning and prevent your air ducts from becoming contaminated.

While these tips will not entirely eliminate the need to have your air ducts cleaned, they will significantly reduce the liklihood that your air duct system becomes contaminated and will also help to ensure that your home's heating and cooling system operates at a high level of performance. The bottom line is that to prevent air duct contamination you need to have a preventative maintenance program in place.

There are two parts of protecting your HVAC system from contaminants. The first part is to do what you can to prevent dirt from reaching your air ducts. The second part is to make sure that you perform required maintenance. It's like changing the oil in your car. it can prevent a lot of problems down the line.

Here are some tips from our NADCA certified New Jersey Air Duct Cleaners:

    • The air filter that you use should be the highest efficiency that is recommended by the maker of your heating and cooling system.
    • You should be changing your air filters on a regular basis. If you're not then there is a much higher chance that your air ducts will become contaminated.
    • If your filters are getting clogged, then you are not cleaning them frequently enough
    • Making sure that there are no missing filters. If one of your vents is missing a filter or there are gaps around the filter, the air, along with contaminants, can enter your HVAC system with ease.
    • Whenever your HVAC system is being cleaned or maintained, ask that the cooling cooling coils and drain pans be cleaned.
    • Your home's heating and cooling system has a much higher chance of becoming contaminated when your home is being renovated. If construction is being done on your home, you should seal off the supply and return registers. You should not operate the HVAC system until the renovation is completed and the dust has been removed from your home.
    • A HEPA vacuum cleaner or at least the highest efficiency filter bags your vacuum cleaner can take will help remove dust and contaminants from your home.
    • If your home HVAC system includes in-duct humidification equipment, the humidifier should be operated and maintained in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
